A  Surprising Recovery in Nuremberg

The LGA tournament in the German city of Nuremberg was held on September 5th-8th for the 10th and the last time. For the farewell edition the format of the event was changed and 3 groups were set with 8 players each playing each other in a tough schedule of 7 rounds in 4 days.  The first 2 groups were strong grandmasters ones and I was invited to the third Master tournament as a regular in the previous editions. I had no expectations this time following my BDO Haarlem fiasco just a couple of days prior to this event. However I probably managed to restore my motivation and energy a bit and surprisingly committed less blunders than my opponents. With more than a bit of tournament luck I even won the group!

It’s sad that this superbly organized event has come to an end. Best compliment to the highly dedicated and enthusiastic organizing team to be seen here: http://live.schach.lga.de/team.htm

A special personal appreciation to the tournament director GM Michael Bezold. As a great fan of the art of the endgame studies he invited me to all the many events he had organized and helped to combine and promote our beloved art in the rich tournaments’ program.
