Successful Pupils

The last competitive summer was not especially successful for me. Following lukewarm and average results in SPA and Vlissingen tournaments the challenger category of BDO Haarlem tournament was especially disastrous with an eventual my all time worst score. The obvious comfort is that it cannot be worse than that… nevertheless I am by no means shattered as in my other chess activities life seems a lot brighter. The best news is the success of my pupils.

In the 3rd Gibraltar International Chess Festival Sebastian Halfhide from Utrecht won the under 12 category unbeaten. Look here:  www.gibraltarchesscongress.com/junior/prizewinners.htm

In the grandmaster group of BDO tournament in Haarlem David Klein from Aerdenhout played excellently and finished second scoring his final GM norm at the age of 19. He won three of his games, drew the other six and he is just 13 Elo points away of the supreme title! Just 2 years ago he won the challenger group of the same event scoring an IM norm.
